Challenge of sustainable development
"Food Common @ New Territories" ends in May 2024, and food recycling in some areas will be affected. However, the "Food Common@ Community" program will continue to actively encourage volunteers to collect bread and lunch boxes and promote food conservation culture through campus activities and environmental protection lectures until October 2025. Both projects are funded by the Tsu Te Kian Charitable Trust.
The Food Commmon @ Shatin, funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund, was launched in August 2021. Excess vegetables were collected from 6 wet markets and bazaars and shared with the elderly and low-income families that night, reducing their economic burden, creating green employment opportunities, and effectively avoiding food waste.
